Great corner pool at Christy Playground at 56th and Christian. Just 11 blocks from the also awesome Shepard Pool.
We checked in with staff immediately because my friend has a bad knee and needs assistance getting out of the pool, and this location was listed as having a wheelchair lift. Unfortunately, although the lift is on display at the side of the pool, the battery is bad and like Kelly Pool the lift is not functioning. However staff offered to be of assistance (and they were)!
No stairs or handrails; just ladders to enter/exit pool. Changing/toilets require going inside the highly air-conditioned rec center to the men’s or women’s locker room, which are strange and anachronistic with lots of empty lockers, a long bench and one single toilet stall along with a single shower stall that is clearly no longer in use as a shower.
The water fountain in the rec center was ice cold, and pool staff had plenty of icy bottled water to offer my friend once they helped her out of the pool.
Pool water temperature was slightly cooler than air temperature but not cold as there isn’t really any shade.
Mostly children at free swim this Sunday, but a few adults (with kids mostly).
