Saw on Facebook that the pool was reopening this weekend, so I stopped by after my Aqua Zumba Class (at the nearby Penrose Pool)
The pool looks so much nicer open and filled with water than it did dry and empty.
Belongings were allowed on the pool deck, and the rec center restrooms were available from the pool deck entrance.
I asked the lifeguard about a nearby building (he wasn’t sure what it was) and I asked if the pool would be open late since it just reopened, and he believes it will be open til labor day!
The neighborhoods nearly complete transformation into temple housing has also advanced in the three summers I have been looking at pools.
According to the lifeguard, the pool was closed for seven years, which gives me hope that Cohen Pool, Carousel House, Cecil B. Moore and others that have remained closed over the years may soon reopen. But it also concerns me that Lawncrest, Vogt, Cherashore, Feltonville and this season’s other newly closed pools may be empty for a several seasons. Here’s hoping for short vacancies and more and more options in the future (and sincere prayers that Cohen, Sayre–Morris, Pickett and Cecil B. Moore will open for 2027, fingers crossed)

My wife and I are jumping into pools together today, which allows me to make detailed notes as she drives the car.
Our first stop was this dry pool on a hot but not too muggy afternoon. The playground looks new: Some kids swinging on playground equipment in the shade of this rapidly developing neighborhood with plenty of campus housing banners on newly renovated and newly built homes.

This pool is at least listed on the 2024 City blog as “The following pools will not open for 2024 pool season: Amos Pool, Baker Pool, CB Moore Pool, Cohen (Hillside) Pool, Cohocksink Pool, F.J. Myers Pool, Kingsessing Pool, McVeigh Pool, Sample Pool, and Ziehler Pool…”
