I’ve been waiting two years to get into this pool, so when I saw they did Aqua Zumba on Wendesdays, I told my West Philly Buddies and we converged. As is often the case for the first class in the season (I became addidcted to AZ around 2017 and have actively looked for the classes every year since), the playground and pool staff were not aware that the teacher or students were scheduled. But it all worked out and we had a great class in a newly paited and decorated pool and then I got changed in a newly rennovated (ladies’) multi stall restroom in a fully open and functioning newly renovated gymnasium with basketballs echoing in the background.
Turned out to be a TOTALLY #kickAss #AquaZumba class and amazing new instructor and with friends followed by treats from Freds Water Ice down the street.

F.J. Myers Recreation Center is closed, along with Kingsessing… a bummer for people in this part of town with two so close together that are completely dry. This looks like a complete overhaul project along the lines of Cobbs Creek Rec Center and Sample Pool.
Hope the makeover doesn’t remove the two sets of stairs with railings and three ladders for entry/exit! With all of the broken wheelchair lifts in city pools, it would be nice if they could at least fill and open the pools that have stairs! This is my 6th pool visit today since noon (Fletcher and Lee on my own this morning, then I met friends to go to Kelly, Christy, Cobbs Creek/Sample, now here and then onward to Kingsessing and Mitchell if the clouds hold off). Only two have been open so far. It’s so tiring. And I already know that our next stop at Kingsessing Pool is also closed, according to the City website.
