The water looks great at the newly renovated Cobbs Creek Rec Center Pool. And guess what? It is awesome.
Full sun, warm water, stairs with railing for entry and a wheelchair accessible deck. (No visible chair lift though.)
Brand spanking new rec center still under renovations, but bathrooms were available on a Sunday: gendered, multi-stall, and wheelchair-accessible toilets. There was also a single un-gendered, non-wheelchair-accessible portapot behind the rec center, at least for now (it may be mainly for the construction workers).
Belongings must be kept outside the pool deck on steps, like at Bridesburg.
There are picnic tables with no shade on a concrete deck outside the fence behind the pool.
I was happy to see that my favorite Keith Haring fan art still exists on the side wall of the rec center. And there are still lots of cameras to prevent unauthorized to use and abuse of the pool (likely, if sadly, an effective measure to prevent future re-creations of my own youthful follies in this pool after hours).

When I lived in West during the ’80s, this was my main destination once I discovered its existence! I would use Kingsessing if I was too tired to venture west, but I frequented this pool many times up until Y2K.
The pool is not quite as large as Kelly or Hunting Park Pool, but it is quite secluded from the major streets nearby, nestled behind a large building and shaded by park trees.
I drug my two West Philly pool buddies with me today, and they humored me by stopping here while I explored the emptiness of the pool and the large reconstruction project in process at the site of the pool.
Very sad that this sizable pool in West Philly is closed for the season (and possibly beyond, rumor has it). Would love to know more.
This part of the park does not look the same without the majesty of the stables and the oasis of the pool down below.
