L-shaped pool with ladders and stairs (no railings) in shallow/tot end
AUGUST 2, 2026
Stopped by after my Aqua Zumba class (at nearby Penrose pool) to jump in.
It was a happy moment with about 10 people in the pool, and lifeguards in a good mood. But no belongings or cameras were allowed inside to photograph, so I only got some long shots from the outside as I was limited on time.
There are gendered multi-stall bathrooms accessible from the pool deck, and pretty cool free menstrual products from Phlow Philly, which I have not previously seen.
I got in and out of the pool pretty quickly and the lifeguard queried “just needed to jump in?” I nodded as I left to get onto my next adventure.

COVID from my recent trip has me isolating but I just had to drive over to see for myself that Shuler Playground Pool opened and to see if maybe there was a miracle at 12th & Cambria. Sadly, I did not witness a miracle.

It’s disappointing that — although this pool was not listed as one of “the following pools will not open for 2024 pool season: Amos Pool, Baker Pool, CB Moore Pool, Cohen (Hillside) Pool, Cohocksink Pool, F.J. Myers Pool, Kingsessing Pool, McVeigh Pool, Sample Pool, and Ziehler Pool” on the Phila.gov blog — it appears that it simply never opened (in spite of the hopes of playground staff earlier in the season).

As of today, the pool had not yet been filled.
JULY 10, 2024
The pool is dry at this playground, but spirits are not damp, thanks to camp staff who are committed to keeping kids cool.
There is hope from playground staff that the pool will open later this season, once the filtration system is repaired. In the meantime, they recommended we visit Penrose, which we had just done.
Like Penrose, playground staff here pulled a hose out of the rec center building to power a splash pad for the kids at camp. Staff purchased an inexpensive inflatable pool to collect some water for additional splash potential, which is great because it is quite hot and muggy!
Not sure what the rules will be at this pool, but happy to know that there are two sets of stairs in the shallow/kids section of the pool.
The address for this playground is listed as North 11th Street, but as this name suggests the rec center, pool, playground and entrance are on the 12th Street side of the park.
