I actually drove here before Kendrick, not realizing that the pool was closed for the season. Which is clearly spelled out on the City website — but previously the website said that Ellis Pool and Kelly Pool were closed as well, and yet I found them both filled with happy folks having free swim. I’m happy that the information is correct but sad to see this pool closed.
I was very hot from a hike earlier so I was trying to catch the last few minutes of adult swim somewhere (anywhere), so I ran off to Kendrick Pool in Roxborough, where I learned from a swimmer there that this pool may have been closed for a decade and is not expected to reopen, which is not exactly what the City Finder says… If anyone can shed light on this mystery, I’m curious… [Editor note: I swam there in 2019, so it hasn’t been a decade.]
Looks like it goes up to six feet, which is a foot deeper than most pools in town but not as deep as the closest pool at Kendrick.
I have returned today to document the status of the pool after all the adults were kicked out of adult swim at Kendrick.
I followed a local dogwalker through the closed gate and looked around…

This rec center looks rather abandoned on a hot weekend afternoon. I see that there is a portable splash pad that’s not connected so I’m guessing most of the activities at this rec center focus around organized sports and camps.
Hopefully at some future summer camp, campers will have access to the pool.
Meantime, this modest playground and pool with a rather large campus stands sun-bleached across the street from an architectural mix of older buildings and modern townhouses, just waiting to be loved (or for happy campers to return on a weekday).
