JULY 22, 2024 – UPDATE
Pool is open!
Persistence paid off for me, and I actually got to jump into this pool today for their opening day. They’ve only been open since noon, and I got there about 2pm and was the only one in the entire pool, which is an almost rectangular shape, with three ladders.

The pool seems to go from three to five feet, but the ladder is a good two feet off the ground, so it would be a big jump for someone who has difficulty with those. There is a brand-new rec center building with brand-spanking-new steel-door restrooms gleaming in the cloudiness of today. But they are unmarked, so I opened the door to the men’s room, with a brand new lineup of urinals, before I was corrected from staff outside the building and went over to the women’s room.
Staff was not 100% ready to answer questions or run the shower, but given that the sky was raining lightly, nature took care of the shower prerequisite and I jumped into the pool, which had already been blessed by leaves from the surrounding trees.
I was concerned the water would be cold since they just filled it up, but the water was mild, and I splashed around for a few minutes before checking out the toilet/changing facilities.
The entrance to the pool is on the Brown Street side (I originally entered from the Aspen Street side and had to walk around). The pool is adjacent to Parkway West High School. Parts of the playground are still under construction.
There was plenty of parking on all sides of the rec center during today’s midday free swim. It was an overcast day, which usually means a quiet day at the pool – make note, those of you like to swim laps (sorry, there are no lines or lanes for that purpose, but even a compact pool is good exercise when unobstructed by crowds)!
I’m glad to see that the pool is open and functioning, for whatever remains of this season (word has it through Labor Day).
Maybe Aqua Zumba will be there Wednesday? Staff could not confirm, but it is on the schedule…

I prioritized coming back here because I learned that starting at some date TBD there’s to be an Aqua Zumba class at this playground on Wednesdays. But the pool is still dry.

Fletcher Playground/Mill Creek Pool was dry today, and the entire park in the heat of the day quite empty. No splash pad. Not sure if the rec center is closed, but there’s a porta potty by the playground equipment. Love the colorful “Mill Creek” mural. Otherwise everything is hot and dry.
