It’s Monday and my wife wanted pool time, so she joined me for today’s pool jumping at Francisville, where we had both participated in Aqua Zumba in years past. It’s been a few years, so while this space is familiar to us, it has changed in some significant ways.
ACCESSIBILITY – They do have a ramp to the restrooms and a set of stairs that can be placed in the pool for those needing accessibility. They recommend that you call in advance to have them put the stairs in the pool prior to your visit if you need mobility assistance. No wheelchair lift.
SEATING – Nope. When I’d been here in previous years for Aqua Zumba, it was a #SwimPhilly location with umbrellas and lots of fancy lawn chairs to sit on. The chairs are all gone and there is only the build-in benching. And you are not allowed to bring your own chairs: We saw someone who tried to bring in a folding lawn chair and was told to put it to the side (they were provided storage space in the rec center building) while they swam.
BAGGAGE – Bags are allowed, and people spread their towels out on the concrete patio to sit in the sun.
SHOWERS – Probably the warmest outdoors showers I’ve ever encountered in the city. Nicely built out with wood to stand on.
CHANGING AREA – They have accessible single-stall men’s and women’s rooms to change in inside the rec center, which can be entered directly from the pool area.
The warmest pool water so far this season, as there is all direct sun and no shade.
