JULY 19, 2024 – Update
Went to a fun aqua fitness class, which the staff confirmed will be happening every Friday, so that’s great. While I was here, I noticed that they created a lap lane (or maybe I just missed it last time?).

I stopped by the playground today to confirm that Aqua Zumba is happening on Fridays and was told that it will be happening on Wednesdays as well, possibly because the City has not managed to open the Mill Creek/Fletcher Pool yet. (I had checked there today, as there was a Wednesday class scheduled, but that pool is still empty.)
There were a few folks trying to get into the pool, which was closed due to wonky chlorine levels in the water.
I got a chance to walk the recreation center grounds, which I had not spent enough time doing previously, and they are quite neglected outside of the pool.

Lee Pool is a lovely oasis for #SwimPhilly. You would never know that the pool existed (or even the rec area, which is ginormous) if you drove by, because the entire campus is surrounded by a brick wall.
There are poolside chairs to use inside the pool area. You must walk through gendered changing areas to get into the pool, but it is the first Philly public pool I’ve ever swam in that actually has indoor showers — really sweet! There is also a more modern unisex shower on the pool deck.
Accessibility: There are no cement stairs or handrails, and no lifts for people with limited ability. The ladders in the pool got so hot my friend burnt her hand going into the pool.
I wish they had a more accessible pool and a unisex/genderless entrance, because this is a huge and gorgeous and seemingly under-utilized pool.
I chatted with the lifeguards briefly to find out if other area pools had concrete stairs but neither of the lifeguards knew, and they did not know of a specific date or time that there will be Aqua Zumba classes this season.
