JULY 22, 2024 – UPDATE
The pool did not open for the 2024 season til the end of July, but I kept going back, sometimes with a friend, because this is a nice large pool that I remember visiting when I was a kid, and during each visit I was told that the plans were to open the pool. Thankfully the plans came through and the pool opened…
I drove out here yesterday and saw that there was water in the pool. So I was hopeful, but the guards told me to come back today for the official opening.
Glad I came back. This pool is awesome — like Cruz Pool, but with a little grassy patch to lie down on. The pool is directly adjacent to the large rec center building, and there is access to the men’s and women’s rooms (both of which are old but clean) from the pool deck.
Kids spread out their towels on the concrete pool deck. Lap swimming is absolutely allowed and encouraged during adult swim, although there are no lines or lanes designated.
There are swim lessons opening up — if you want to enroll your child (younger than 12), you can walk up to the rec center to do so. No adult swim lessons or aquatics classes but I’m sure everybody in the neighborhood is just happy the pool is open, if only for a couple of weeks.
There were about 25 people for family swim, which is a good number — although in this expansive pool it seems very small. On such a cloudy and relatively cool day, I’m surprised at that amount of folk, but there has been a lot of chomping at the bit to get into this pool this summer!

JULY 14, 2024 – UPDATE
I heard from a Northeast Philly Facebook group that Max Myers was getting ready to open this week, so I stopped by today while I was in the neighborhood visiting other pools.
The pool has been painted during the past 10 days, from white to blue, but it’s still dry.
The creative and pragmatic rec center staff were setting up other inflatable water play facilities for campers at the day camp program to stay cool on this very hot day.
Word is that the opening is pushed back to next week? Can’t wait to jump in.

JULY 4, 2024
Because of the holiday I had friends join me to tour pools. Our first stop was right near their residence at the very dry Max Myers Pool .
My family used to hit Max Myers Pool from time to time when I was a kid. It is such a big, beautiful pool. Hope to visit later in the season, when it will hopefully be open. I did not read that this is one of the pools that are planned to remain closed.
Unfortunately, I don’t see any evidence of stairs or railings or a chairlift from this photo.
