#MyPhillyPoolTour2024
JULY 18, 2024
This was the final South Philly stop of my day with my pool buddy from South (so I can get home and eat, then head to the Northeast for Aqua Zumba at Lawncrest Pool). Love this quintessential Philly public playground pool. When I worked downtown, I used to run here for a lunch-hour dip when Ridgway was closed.
Full sun, relatively warm water. A very cute, compact, not-quite-rectangular pool with four ladders, surrounded by urban sports fields and a colorful rec center with a “Lady restroom” and “Men restroom” to change and use toilet.
I can’t remember if steps are required to enter from Federal Street, which is where the pool is, but from Washington Avenue, you can walk across the courts or fields and get to the pool deck without steps.
Wish they could refurbish the water fountain.
My friend ran into another friend who told her about my touring project and that person had read a bunch of them on the South Silly Facebook group.
There is usually a pretty diverse crowd in this pool, even during adult swim, and today was not an exception.
The guards are relaxed, the shower isn’t freezing, and people bring their belongings onto the pool deck and store them by the fence like back in the day.
