A great asset for Grays ferry.
The city website lists the address as S. 32nd St. and the pool is visible from 32nd and but you must walk into the playground to enter the pool, which is pretty typical. The camp kids were getting out for lunch, so I was absolutely the only person in the pool while campers ate . I expect neighborhood folks will come later in the afternoon for splashing around during the hottest part of today which is a good 10° less hot than the previous several days.
Like many pools, the Stinger Pool is open in spite of the cities website, indicating that the pool was closed to the public.
There was a party vibe at the stinger playground and park today– day campers were just getting out of the pool for lunch, but there were barbecues going in the park lots of shade, kids selling snack foods to raise funds for the playground and the pool was completely empty for free swim with a perfect warm temperature in an L-shaped pool with two sets of steps – no handrail – in both corners of the 2 foot kitty pool section. There are no handrails on the steps, but four ladders to get out of the main part of the pool.
Chaging and toilet space is in the rec center building about 100 yards from the pool entrance. Non-accessible restrooms are cleaned regularly and I bumped into the person who is doing the cleaning who assured me that they were just trying to keep the room clean.
Also, local tip- there was only one parking space open on 32nd St and after I took the space, I realized why it was left open- the tree leans into the street with a knotty bit that punched a dent in the bumper of my car. and broke a headlight. So if you drive over here and see only one open space, just skip it and park around the corner it might become the most expensive swim ever.
