The pool is quite large, but according to staff it is never sectioned off for lap swimming. The water was relatively warm, and this is probably one of the more accessible pools that I’ve been in, with a fully functioning wheelchair lift and stairs with a handrail.
Rec center restrooms include handicap stalls in the men’s and women’s rooms.
In some ways this playground looks exactly as I remember it although I’ve not been here in at least 40 years. In other ways, it looks completely new. For example, I recall there being a deep end of this pool. And I don’t remember the cages next to the pool, or the big window in the back of the rec center where some of the pool staff were taking their break by the phone (hopefully this means it’s easier to get a human when you call this rec center).
The sparse crowd in this large pool was all ages and quite diverse during free swim today, including some folks who had a variety of lovely colored hair.

I wish Vogt Recreation Center and all the large pools would section their pools in a similar way that Kelly Pool Fairmount Park is sectioned with dedicated lap lanes. These seem to make the job much easier for the lifeguards but there seem to be few pools that really create space for people to swim as sport or for fitness. If there were one or two lanes dedicated at all times in each of these large pools, I believe it would attract a whole different demographic of athletes who wants to swim laps to stay in shape, which is very difficult to do when the pool is cut in half horizontally.
