#MyPhillyPoolTour2024
JULY 12, 2024
I’m glad I drove by Scanlon Pool on my way to Samuel Pool, so that I was able stop back here after my failed attempt at attending the latter’s Friday Aqua Zumba class.
This is a really nice pool deck, with the fanciest benches I’ve seen so far, lots of armchairs for adults, and risers for kids. It has a separated shallow (2 to 3 foot) section for children.
No stairs for pool entry and no wheelchair lift, although I was told a few people in chairs have visited the pool this season and gotten in and out through the shallow end.
Had a long conversation with a lifeguard who decided to take the job as a retiree (originally from Germantown, moved to Florida for a couple decades and recently relocated to Torresdale before taking the job— which they definitely recommend for other retirees). They described the toughest part of the job as keeping the kids from fighting and endangering each other when the pool is crowded, but so far they’ve a great summer sitting in the sun and enjoying the water.
The neighborhood is in transition economically and architecturally, with brand-new-looking big-box apartments across the street clashing with older parts of the neighborhood. The rooster next door seems to enjoy watching traffic go by from behind the pool fence. Sadly, not all of the many photos I took as the sun was going down were able to upload to this page 😦
